Dubai Tourist Visa Extension: Documents, Fees and the 120-Day Limit

1. Confirm the visa category and issuing authority first

Start with the visa record, not a generic search result. Confirm that the document is a single- or multiple-trip tourist visa issued in Dubai and identify its sponsor or issuing tourism office. UAE government channel guidance lists GDRFA Dubai for Dubai applications and ICP as the federal online channel. The issuing authority shown on the actual file controls the application. GDRFA lists tourist visa extension separately from extensions for a relative or friend, business visits, job or business exploration, medical treatment, study or training, visa on arrival, GCC-related categories and other routes. Those categories can have different limits, evidence and charges. If the document says visit, entry permit, visa on arrival or another purpose, use the matching official service instead of assuming the tourist rules apply.

2. Separate three dates that are often confused

Check three different concepts: the entry permit's validity for entering the UAE, the permitted stay after entry, and any approved extension of that stay. ICP's federal service card says that the validity of an eligible entry permit may be extended once for an equivalent period before arrival. That pre-travel transaction is not the same as adding time to a stay after the traveller has entered. For the Dubai tourist extension service, GDRFA says a single- or multiple-trip tourist visa may be extended for the same granted period, subject to the issuing authority's decision. Do not infer the next expiry date from a flight booking, an old article or the words "120 days." Check the current visa status and the date recorded by GDRFA, then ask the issuing tourism office or GDRFA which transaction applies before paying.

3. Prepare the published document and the live file details

GDRFA's Dubai-specific extension page currently lists a copy of the passport as the published requirement. Use a clear copy of the passport attached to the visa file and check that the name, passport number and expiry details match the live record. The page also notes that only accredited tourism offices in the emirate can issue this kind of visa, so keep the issuing office or sponsor details available. The broader ICP extension card lists a passport, personal photograph and the same documents submitted at issuance according to the visa type. That federal list should not be substituted for the Dubai service card, but it shows why a case may require more than one upload. Do not treat the short published GDRFA list as a promise that no additional evidence can be requested. Confirm the enabled account or submission route with the issuing tourism office and the responsible authority.

4. Use the correct GDRFA channel and save the reference

GDRFA describes a digital route through its website or smart application: sign in with UAE Pass or a username, find the service, complete the applicable information and pay the displayed fee. It also lists an Amer service-centre route: visit the appropriate centre, take a queue ticket, submit a complete request and pay the applicable amount. Check the official centre locator and opening hours before travelling. The extension page does not say that every visa holder can submit through every channel personally. The available account and filer can depend on the visa and its sponsoring tourism establishment. Before payment, verify the service name, visa category, passport details and current stay date. Keep the application number, payment receipt and any request for additional information. Use GDRFA's official status and support channels for a Dubai-issued file.

5. Read the fee components without inventing a fixed total

GDRFA currently lists an AED 600 visa-extension fee plus 5% VAT. When the sponsored person is inside the UAE, it additionally lists AED 10 Knowledge Dirham, AED 10 Innovation Dirham and an AED 500 inside-country fee. The same page warns that the total may vary according to the sponsored person's circumstances or other reasons. It does not establish one guaranteed total for every application or state which amount forms the VAT base. ICP's broader federal card separately lists AED 100 as an application fee, AED 500 to extend entry, and AED 50 for a request to extend entry-permit validity before arrival. Do not combine ICP and GDRFA line items or advertise the AED 50 pre-arrival item as the price of extending a stay in Dubai. The service selected for the actual issuing authority and the amount shown at live checkout are what matter. Typing, centre or case-specific charges may also differ.

6. Treat 120 days and 48 hours as limits and estimates, not promises

GDRFA says the issuing authority may approve one or more extensions, with the total not exceeding 120 days. ICP's current federal wording likewise describes the visit or tourism ceiling as a total duration, not 120 additional days. This does not guarantee approval, a fixed number of extensions or a particular added period. GDRFA's phrase "for the same period" must be read against the period actually granted on the visa and the authority's decision. GDRFA publishes 48 hours as the expected service completion time. Treat that as a service estimate for a complete eligible request, not a guaranteed end-to-end result. Apply before the recorded permitted stay expires, monitor authority messages and do not assume that submitting or paying automatically protects against overstay. ICP currently lists an AED 50 daily fine when the permitted stay or entry visa has expired; the responsible authority determines the actual file.
