Dubai Overstay Fine Check: How to Pay and What to Do Next

1. Confirm the issuing authority and the date that controls the stay

Check the actual visa, entry permit or residence record before calculating anything. Dubai-issued files are handled through GDRFA Dubai, while the federal ICP channels cover Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. Entry validity before travel, the authorised stay after entry, an approved extension and a deadline after residence cancellation are different dates. 2. Read the AED 50 daily line without inventing a total

ICP's current fine-payment service card lists AED 50 per day for expiry of the permitted stay, or for cancellation or expiry of an entry visa, residence permit, exit permit or newborn-registration period. That published daily line does not prove the chargeable start date or final total for every file. The authority record may reflect the permit category, an approved extension, a recorded deadline and other applicable lines. Do not multiply from the visa issue date or rely on a generic online calculator; retrieve the recorded amount first.

3. Check a Dubai fine through the official GDRFA inquiry

Open GDRFA Dubai's Fines Inquiry Service and choose the search mode that matches the document you hold: file number, UDB number, Emirates ID or passport number. The form then asks for the supporting fields relevant to that mode, such as nationality, file type, place of issue, date of birth or gender. Enter only the information requested by the official form, complete the security check and review the returned file details carefully. Save the inquiry result or reference before moving to payment.

4. Pay through the authority responsible for the file

For a Dubai file, GDRFA's Fine Collection for Violators of Residency Law is available through its website or smart application 24/7, through Amer centres during their operating hours, and at Hatta land port. The service card currently says there is no service fee beyond the violation fine and gives 48 hours as an expected completion time, not a guarantee. If GDRFA requests missing documents, its 30-day response window is a deadline to complete that application, not an overstay grace period. For a file handled by ICP, the federal service uses ICP Smart Services, requires UAE Pass, lists a separate AED 100 smart-services fee and gives two days as the service duration. Keep the payment receipt and reference; never combine the two authorities' fee tables into one total.

5. Know what payment does not do

ICP's published terms say the person's status must be adjusted or the person must leave the UAE after visa or residence fines are paid. Payment alone does not renew or extend a visa, cancel a residence permit, issue a new permit, remove a restriction, authorise work or guarantee departure clearance. Ask the responsible authority which next transaction applies to the live file, and verify the updated status after it is completed. 6. Treat a waiver or reduction as a separate discretionary request

GDRFA Dubai has a separate service for requesting a waiver or reduction of residence-law fines. Its current card asks for a copy of the violator's passport, a letter explaining why the violation arose and why the amount cannot be paid, plus any evidence requested by the Fines Committee. The card lists AED 15.75 when the sponsor is an individual. Submitting documents is only a request; it is not an automatic discount, approval or general amnesty.
