Dubai Tourist Visa Guide: Entry Routes, Documents and Timing

Start by checking whether you need a pre-arranged visa

GCC citizens do not need a visa to enter the UAE. Some other nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival, while the rest must arrange permission before travel. Because eligibility lists can change, use Dubai's current official visa-planning page and confirm with the competent authority or your airline immediately before departure rather than relying on an old country list. A passport should generally remain valid for at least six months from entry for these routes. Your residence country, passport type and any supporting foreign visa or residence permit may also matter for a specialised entry route. Eligibility is only the first check: border admission and visa issuance remain subject to the authorities.

Compare Dubai's standard 30-day and 60-day tourist routes

Current GDRFA Dubai service cards describe single-entry and multiple-entry tourist visas for stays of 30 or 60 days. A UAE establishment licensed in tourism acts as sponsor or host for these services. Single entry suits one planned holiday; multiple entry may suit a traveller who genuinely needs to leave and return during the permitted period. Broader ICP material refers to 30-, 60- and 90-day visit categories, but that does not make 90 days a universal Dubai tourist option. Use the exact name, duration and issuing authority shown on the service or permit you select. A tourist visa is not interchangeable with a relative visit, job-exploration, study or residence route.

Use the five-year multiple-entry route only when it fits your travel pattern

The federal five-year multiple-entry tourist visa is a self-sponsored option for repeat UAE travel and is available to all nationalities subject to approval. It generally allows stays of up to 90 days per visit. The authority may approve a further period, but total stay must remain within the route's annual limit of 180 days. Unused days should not be treated as transferable to a later year. This route asks for evidence beyond an ordinary short tourist application, including a bank statement showing at least USD 4,000 or its equivalent during the six months before application, UAE-valid health insurance, a return or onward ticket and proof of accommodation. The first-entry deadline and annual counting rules shown on the issued visa must be followed.

Apply through the correct channel and verify the provider

Standard tourist visas may be arranged through eligible UAE-based airlines, hotels or licensed travel and tourism establishments, each subject to its own conditions. For Dubai-issued files, GDRFA Dubai is the relevant immigration authority; ICP provides federal services including the five-year route. UAE embassies do not issue tourist visas. Before sending a passport copy or money, verify that the provider is genuine, understand who will submit the application and ask for the official service name. Keep the application number and the issuer's contact details. Avoid anyone who promises guaranteed approval, asks you to misstate your purpose or cannot explain which authority will issue the permit.

Build a document pack for the route you actually selected

Common items include a clear passport bio-page copy, a recent compliant personal photograph, an onward or return ticket and health insurance valid in the UAE. Accommodation evidence and additional identity documents may be required. Names, passport numbers and dates must match across every file; explain legitimate differences rather than silently submitting inconsistent records. Financial evidence is route-specific. It is explicit for the five-year visa but should not be presented as a universal requirement for every short tourist application. The sponsor, airline or authority may request further evidence after review. Supply only genuine, readable documents and retain the originals for travel.

Keep entry validity, permitted stay and extension rules separate

Entry validity is the period in which an issued permit can first be used. Permitted stay is counted under the terms that apply after entry. Extension eligibility is a third question and depends on the visa type and issuing authority. Confusing these dates can create an overstay even when the document itself appears unexpired. ICP currently says eligible standard visit or tourism permits may be extended once or more at the authority's discretion, subject to the applicable total cap, while the five-year visa has separate annual limits. Apply before the permitted stay ends and confirm through the original issuer. Never assume an extension is automatic or remain in the UAE while waiting without verifying lawful status.

Plan for review time and verify the issued permit before travel

Official service pages publish expected completion times, but these estimates assume complete requirements and are not guarantees of approval or travel clearance. Reviews, corrections and additional checks can take longer. Fees may also vary by route, applicant location and circumstances, so check the live official service card immediately before payment. When the permit arrives, check the name, passport number, number of entries, first-entry deadline and permitted stay. Save an electronic and offline copy, record the final lawful-stay date and use the issuer's official tracking channel. Book inflexible travel only when you accept the risk that immigration decisions and processing times remain outside an agent's control.
